- Book your first appointment 1 year to 6 months out from your wedding date. In most instances, your gown will take 3-4 months to be made after you order and you also need to allow time for fittings.
- Browse the internet. Look for different designers and styles. Print off some of your favorites and bring them with you. It will help your consultant pull those styles or dresses that are similar.
- Buy a strapless bra. It is best to find one that fits you well instead of waiting until you get to the salon and have to go without a bra or with one that does not fit properly. The right bra can make all the difference in how you see yourself in a gown, especially if you are trying on strapless.
- Wear underwear! This is something I never thought I would have to mention, but in the 4 short years we have been in business, it has happened a lot. Keep in mind, corset style gowns are very popular right now and your consultant will be behind you lacing you into your gown. If you think they won't notice, think again.
- Keep the make-up to a minimum and wear long hair in an elastic. You are going to be in and out of gowns. Your make up will be smeared on the inside of gowns and your hair will be a hot mess.
- If you have appointments at numerous shops in one day, wear something that it is easy to get in and out of and that you will comfortable in between appointments.
- Keep the entourage down to 2 or 3 people. It can be nerve wracking trying on dresses for the first time, and it only adds to the stress when you have too many opinions coming at you. Once you have narrowed your choices down to a couple dresses, come back with the other important people in your life to help you pick THE dress.
- Keep the kids at home. Children generally have very little interest in the process and start to get bored. Once they get bored, we all know what happens. You can't enjoy trying on gowns if you are also chasing your children through the salon and you can end up with a large bill for damages if your child accidentally breaks or rips something while your back is turned.
- Let your consultant help you through the process. Remember, they know their inventory best and they know what dresses have looked good on similar body types. You can easily overlook something that would look fabulous.
- Most importantly, be open to different styles. For every woman that buys exactly what she pictured in her mind, there is another woman that bought the complete opposite of what she thought she wanted. Don't be afraid to let go of that picture in your head if the dresses in that style just aren't working for you.
